Dementia Friends

As part of our commitment to dementia awareness we are Dementia Champions offering FREE Dementia Friends sessions for community groups. Dementia Friends sessions are NOT training but during this friendly and interactive Session you will increase your understanding of dementia and think about the small things that you can do to make a difference to people affected by dementia in your community.

Join us on social media to find out when our next Dementia Friends session will be.

The Heron Music Café

We are proud to support this inclusive life music café. The Heron is a live music café with the simple aim of promoting wellbeing using the power of music. The café welcomes individuals experiencing loneliness and isolation, with dementia, mental health conditions, learning disabilities young or old. Participants can attend with carers, family or on their own as the café is supported by volunteers. Fortnightly sessions are facilitated by professional musicians. JoCo Learning and development supports the café by lending its expertise ensuring that all the Heron musicians have dementia awareness training and other learning and development to benefit their practice and the experience of the café members.

musicworks

musicworks is a small charity involved in a number of projects that use music in a variety of care setting to improve the quality of life for people with dementia, people who care for others, those at end of life and people undergoing medical procedures. They have become increasingly aware of the levels of social isolation experienced by many people, due to aging, mental health conditions, poor physical health and caring responsibilities. The national statistics are staggering. Currently one in four people in the UK will experience problems with their mental health (MIND), 860,000 people have a diagnosis of dementia (Alzheimer’s Society) and three quarters of older people are lonely and have not spoken to anyone about how they feel (Jo Cox Commission).
